Do you ever do this? And do you have a word for it?
In the summer of 2004, I took a solo trip around the Southwest. It was amazing.

Bryce Canyon pic swiped from Flickr user 2darkwings. All my pics from the trip are 35mm. Remember that stuff?
This week I’ve been going a little stir crazy, and I keep catching myself zoning out on work and mentally playing back that trip.
Almost everything is the same, true to memory. The roads, the rocks, the campgrounds, the towns, the people, all run through my mind now just as they really were (or as close to it as my human brain can reconstruct).
There’s just one difference. I did that trip in an old blue station wagon. In these daydreams, fantasy built on memory, I’m traveling that same meandering loop again… but on a bike.

Did you see me in your fantasy base camp with my blue mountain bike?
Sometimes if I’ve been immersed in speaking Spanish for a while (a few days/weeks) I’ll recall conversations I had with friends in English, but I’ll play them back in Spanish. It’s always disconcerting.
Odd–I took a solo Southwest trip in 2008, and I’ve been experiencing some serious yearnings to go back lately. Must be something in the air. Going by bike would be amazingly fun, but I think I need to work my way up to that.
